A tandem flight from Sarangkot with a licensed pilot, gliding over Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range ahead.

Overview

Pokhara paragliding is one of the most memorable things to do in Nepal: a tandem flight from the hill of Sarangkot, gliding high above Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range and the peak of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) in front of you. You fly with an experienced, licensed pilot, so no experience is needed, just a sense of adventure.

How the flight works

After a pickup from your hotel in Pokhara, you drive up to the take-off point at Sarangkot, about 1,600 metres above sea level. Your pilot gives a short safety briefing and fits your harness, then, after a few running steps, you're airborne. Depending on the flight you choose, you glide for around 20 to 30 minutes, or longer on an extended flight, circling on rising air above the valley before landing beside Phewa Lake.

What you'll see

On a clear morning, the views stretch from the lake and the green hills around Pokhara to the snow peaks of the Annapurna range. Eagles and vultures often ride the same air currents, and many pilots offer photos and videos of your flight for a small extra charge.

Best time to fly

The clearest mountain views are from October to December and from March to May. Morning flights usually have the calmest air and the best visibility. Flights depend on the weather, and your pilot decides on the day whether it's safe to fly.

Who can fly

Tandem paragliding suits most healthy adults and older children. There's usually a weight limit, and pregnant travelers or anyone with serious heart or back conditions shouldn't fly. Tell us about any health questions when you book, and our local partner will confirm.

What to bring

Comfortable clothes, closed shoes, a light jacket (it's cooler in the air), sunglasses with a strap, and sunscreen.
