Chitwan & Bardia Jungle Safaris

One-horned rhinos, tigers and elephants in Nepal's national parks

2 trips From $180 per person ★ 5.0 from 1 review Government-licensed local partners

Nepal's lowland national parks are home to one-horned rhinos, Bengal tigers, wild elephants, crocodiles and hundreds of bird species. A jungle safari is a wonderful contrast to the mountains and fits easily into most itineraries.

Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the most visited and easiest to reach from Kathmandu or Pokhara. Bardia National Park in the far west is more remote and much quieter, and is known for tiger tracking.

Chitwan or Bardia?

  • Chitwan: easier to reach, more lodges, excellent for rhinos and birdlife. Ideal for 2 to 3 nights.
  • Bardia: wilder and quieter, fewer visitors, longer walking and tracking. Ideal for 3 to 4 nights.

What a safari includes

Typically jeep safaris, a canoe trip on the river, guided jungle walks with a naturalist, and a visit to a Tharu village, with meals and a lodge near the park.

Best time to go

October to March is pleasant and green. From February to April the tall grasses are cut and animals are easier to see, though it gets hot.
